Adding a Directory Listing

To add a directory listing you will need to create a “Directory Listing Introduction”. The introduction is used to generate interest before the user clicks the “Read More” link. The introduction may contain text, image, and file just like the “Standard Content” module. Use the “Directory Listing > Add Introduction” box to start a listing. Notice the first field is the category field. In order to add a new directory listing, you will need a category to create it in. To start creating categories, click the “Click here to add a category” link. You should see a box labeled “Directory > Add Category” appear.

Type in a category name and click “Save” to add the category. Keep in mind that you need to add the category before you add your introduction content. Now you should see your category in the selection box. To select more than one category, hold down “Ctrl” or “Shift” while clicking the category. Below the drop selection you are able to “Edit Category”, “Delete Category”, and “Add Category”. Remember to select the category you would like to modify and that only one category may be edited at a time, but you can delete multiple categories.

Note that when deleting categories, the listings that are associated with that category will not be deleted. But if you do not assign that directory a new category, it will not display on the front end. Once you have entered in your introduction and selected a category, click the “Save” button. The next step is to add your listing content. This is the content that the user will see after they click the “Read More” link from the introduction. Below where you added the directory listing introduction you should see a box labeled “Listings”, this is where all the listings that you have created will be displayed. Notice at the top of the box there is a drop down box that you can select to view your listings by a certain category or search by keyword; the default is “All”.

Within your main directory listing you are able to add multiple blocks of information just like you would be able to with the “Standard Content” module. This means that you can add text, image, or a file and re-order them within the article. Once you have added content to your article, click the “Save” button.

When you are finished, to view your directory listing log out of the administration and navigate to the page that you added the “Directory” to.

There are two ways to search the directory: By category or by keyword.

Once you have selected your category or entered in the keyword you would like to search form, click the “Search” button. Now you should see something similar to the example below:

Notice that the number of results found will be displayed along with the directory listing introductions. To view the full directory listing, click the “Read More: link.
