Setup an Account in Microsoft Outlook 2003

Microsoft Outlook or Outlook (full name Microsoft Office Outlook since Outlook 2003) is a personal information manager from Microsoft, and is part of the Microsoft Office suite.

To setup a new account, follow these steps:

  1. Open Outlook 2003

  2. Go to Tools -> Email Accounts

  1. Select "Add a new e-mail account".

  1. Click "Next"

  1. Select "POP3" and click the "Next" button.

There are six fields here that need to be completed. First is your name, this is the name you would like to appear when people receive email from you. Below that is the full email address. So for example, "bob@mywebsite.com".*See footnote at the bottom of this page

Next is the logon information, here is where you put your username and password. If you would like your email client to not prompt you for a password everytime you check your email, click the "Remember password" box.

Next is the server information. This is the most important portion because if it is not entered correctly you may not be able to recieve or send email

Your "Incoming mail server" will be mail dot (.) your website url. For example, "mail.mywebsite.com".* See footnote at the bottom of this page

Your "Outgoing mail server" will always** be your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For example, if you use shaw, it would be "shawmail" or if you used telus it would be "mail.telus.net". If you are unsure what your outgoing mail server is, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and they will be able to give you the correct ougoing mail server.

Now click "Test Settings". This will determine if your account information is correct and functioning properly.

When the Test is done, if successfull, it will display check marks and a success message. If you have any errors, click the "Errors" tab to see what the errors are.

*Foot Note:

The email used in the above illustration is metaphoric.
DO NOT actually use "mysebsite.com" unless you actually own the domain "mywebsite.com"

If you were a microsoft employee, you might use bob@microsoft.com. If you were an apple employee you might use bob@apple.com. The "mywebsite.com" is a representation of a domain, NOT YOUR REAL EMAIL DOMAIN.

If you do not know what your real domain name is, please call us at 1-888-368-0088.

**Foot Note:

Alternate outbound ports and settings are available if required for traveling functionality. If you are not a frequent traveller, then please use the above settings unless other wise diected by support.
